Projects

Our projects are intended to broaden the arts-based experiences of youth. Both within and out of school. 

Our Within Day Programing puts the Arts back into the school day.  Together with school we develop an art program that is right for the school.  This programing aims to provide a consecutive series of lessons with a cumulative event to celebrate what students have learned.  We have area experts in all 5 disciplines of the California Arts Standards for Visual and Performing Arts (Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, and Visual Art).

Our After-school enrichment programing expands the experiences of students with a consecutive series of lessons aimed at exposing students to the arts in a meaningful way.

Our Projects focus on cultivating Youth Voice within a cumulative outcome that exposes the student to various experiences in the Art World.

Mural Making in Schools introduces students to public art through collaboratively creating a mural ranging from design development, and image translation, to a final hand-painted installation. 

Youth Art Magazine introduces students to the field of Arts Journalism through our Creative Writing and Illustration class. Artists and writers cross disciplines to broaden the experience of the Arts through drawing, illustration, digital platforms, poetry, short stories, flash fiction, and memoir to experiment with Visual Writing and Storytelling.

 UBU Youth Record Label introduces students to the music recording industry as artists. Students record, mix, and edit their music as well as how to promote and publish their music. 

Film-Makers in School introduces students to the art of cinematography where students observe and collaborate with industry professionals, learning the tools of the trade, exposing them to various career opportunities in the film industry.

Diversity and Inclusion Book-Club is a social justice and art making project that creates a safe, brave and supportive space for students to explore exclusivity and understanding, learn how they can be leaders within their communities, and build meaningful relationships with their peers. The protocols for sharing, listening, deep-dives, and close-reading are incorporated from the National Equity Project, Black Teacher Project, and the Bay Area Writing Program. Students share their ideas, perspective, and point-of-view through discussion groups and through the arts, witnessing student truths.

Young Art Makers Space is an ongoing Critique Group for young creatives. Aesthetic Response Protocols and Constructive feedback encourage students to develop Artistic Portfolios, participate in the city-wide Vallejo Open Studios to exhibit and sell their artwork.

Teaching Artists Training Program is an initiative designed by VTA to support and encourage teaching artistry within our community.  We provide monthly opportunities for teaching artists to develop their skills through workshops and community activities that support both the Artist and the Teacher.
